This was a major achievement for the school, as earlier no one had ever really seriously thought our students would one day be representing the country and then winning in the Special Olympics, an international event where participants come from around the world.

The students were selected after trials in different parts of India and then specially coached for competing at an international level.

Later, we also sent a group of our girl students to train at Auli for the Winter Olympics, where they spent 5 days learning skiing and other winter sports. Although they did not qualify for the competition, it was a joyful success for the students who learnt something entirely new.

Passing school examinations is so commonplace in most Indian households, but it is a cause for some emotional celebrations for us, because it is the culmination of really hard work put in by the students who cannot hear and talk, and, of course, their teachers! When our hearing-impaired students pass the school finals, it is after having struggled for years learning the basics and the curriculum, learning to understand questions and answering them with the correct use of words and language, drawing and labelling diagrams, as well as keeping track of the time.

We have had several students pass the primary level, and some have completed and passed secondary level examinations. One hearing impaired student went on to do his post-graduation.
